Spandan 2018: Football Match held between The International Boarding Schools in Mumbai



Day1 - Football

The first day of football at Spandan 2018 in the Cathedral Vidya School, Lonavala was fitting for an event of this caliber. It started at nine in the morning with the Under 18 teams of Cathedral Vidya School Lonavala and Oberoi International School, Goregaon facing off against each other. The ball flew from one side to the other, only to be met with a wall of defensive players. Both sides showed great skill in their game. Neither team was better than the other, and the match ended in 1 – 1 tie. The Cathedral Vidya School, an IB world school Pune scored at the last minute to steal a stalemate from the jaws of defeat.
Each match was played with similar gusto. Every player in every team showed their passion in smashing the ball from one goalpost to the other. The chants of every school echoed in the hills. Neither wear nor tear could crush the spirits of these intrepid warriors.


FOOTBALL – FIELD B

The players are all pumped up for the next 3 days , today being the 1st day at the best IB board schools Mumbai, Cathedral Vidya school and Kohinoor American School had their first match . The match started with KAS getting a yellow card and CVSL getting a free kick, but unfortunately it hit the cross bar and bounced away , nice attempt by KAS but CVSL’s defense was too strong . In the next match between Riverdale international school and Oberoi international school the OIS keeper tried to deflect the ball but then RIS counterattacks scored a goal. RIS walked into half time carrying 6 goals on their shoulder.
With all the enthusiasm, the girls’ teams of the Oberoi International School and Cathedral Vidya School Lonavala, started warming up before the match. With their heads held high they entered the field all ready to play the match. With the blow of the whistle, the first half starts. Two minutes in the first half and Oberoi international school’s Anshita with the jersey number 27 scores a goal. After an intense battle for the ball, Kavya from Cathedral Vidya School, Lonavala, with the jersey number 9, got a free kick which wasn’t so successful. Oberoi scores another goal by Ahana, jersey number 8 from Oberoi international school, Moe scores another goal for her team. Finally, the match is over with Oberoi winning against CVSL by 3 goals.

Day2 - Football

The second day of Football matches on Field A at #Spandan2018CVSL was met with a similar fervor and spirit to the first. From the first kick-off to the last whistle, the players showed brilliant spirit and excellent skills. Whether it was the goalkeepers, punching and catching the balls from wherever they came, or the strikers, smashing it into the net and screaming their celebratory catchphrases. Not only did the non-participants from every school show support for their school, but they created songs for each player, and sang it as the ball soared through the air.

To start the day, the #CathedralIBDP Cathedral John Connon School, with bullet-like shots, accurate clearances, and brave counterattacks, achieved a 7-0 victory over Symbiosis International School in an Under-18 match. Then, the Cathedral Vidya School, a boarding school in Mumbai played B.D. Somani in a tense inch-by-inch battle, ending with a 1-0 victory for B.D. Somani.

Having lost one match, and drawn the other, the Cathedral Vidya School needed a huge margin of victory over their next opponents, the Kohinoor American School. In an intense battle with shots ranging the entire field, the Cathedral Vidya School won a 3-0 victory, but it wasn’t enough. #BoardingSchoolinIndia

Both, the teams and their supporters are waiting with bated breath for tomorrow’s Semi-finals, as the Oberoi International School, the United World College, the Cathedral John Connon School, and B.D. Somani go through in the Under-18 category, and St. Michael’s, the Cathedral John Connon, the Infant Jesus High School, and B.D. Somani made it in the Under-16 category.


SPANDAN DAY 2

The second day of SPANDAN started off with the first match between the list of best boarding schools in Mumbai, i.e. Oberoi International school team A and Symbiosis International School. Zaid being an exceptional player from SIS scored three goals throughout the match thus making SIS the winner. Today was a very crucial day for all the teams as winners of the matches would be playing for the Quarter Finals. The players showed extra enthusiasm and energy they fought and finally some teams made their way through the semi finals. The teams which qualified for the semi finals were Oberoi International School, BD Somani International School, Cathedral John Connon , Symbiosis International School and our beloved Cathedral Vidya School, Lonavala. The #Ibworldschoolpune CVSL’ites had a tough competition against SIS as Rudra Mehta got a yellow card during the second half. SIS got a free kick and CVSL ##BestBoardingSchoolnearNaviMumbai took the opportunity to score a goal. GO CVSL!

Day3 - Football

The third and final day of Football Matches on Football Field A at #Spandan2018cvsl was the most exciting one of all. Semi-finals of the Under-16 and Under-18 categories, as well as the finals of all the categories were played on Field A today.

The Semi-finals of the Under-16 and -18 categories were played at International Boarding Schools in Maharashtra, India with immense skill and passion. Excellent saves from the goalkeeper and equally excellent shots from the strikers, Oberoi International School beat the United World College 2-0 in the Under-18 category to make it to the final. The Under-16 team of the Cathedral and John Connon School, with excellent chemistry within the team, beat St. Michael’s 3-0 to get through, followed shortly by their Under-18 team, which played in a tense battle against B.D. Somani School. Neither was better than the other, as a 0-0 tie brought us to the penalties. After the initial 5 shootouts, which ended in a 4-4 tie, sudden death ended in a 6-5 victory for the Cathedral and John Connon school. Then, the Under-16 teams of B.D. Somani and the Infant Jesus High School faced off. The match ended in a 1-0 victory for the Infants. #BestBoardingSchoolnearNaviMumbai

After a break for lunch, the finals began. Finals of all categories took place on field A. The girls of the Oberoi International School and the Cathedral and John Connon School fought in an aggressive final, the result being a 1-0 victory for CJCS. The Under-14 category was decided by a match between B.K. Birla and Riverdale International School. The result was an overwhelming 4-0 victory for B.K. Birla. The Under-16 final was probably the most intense match, with a 1-1 tie, followed by a 4-3 penalties victory for the Infant Jesus High School over none other than CJCS. CJCS played Oberoi International for the Under-18 category, which ended in a 1-0 victory for them. #DayBoardingSchoolsinNaviMumbai

All teams played exceptionally, and the best teams won. We would like to wish all the winning teams’ hearty congratulations and hope to have an even more exciting Spandan next year.

After battling their way through the Quarter finals, the teams made their way towards the semifinals. The first match started off with Cathedral Vidya School, a Residential school Mumbai playing against Riverdale International School. The first half was not that great as even after an intense fight for the ball, CVSL wasn’t able to score a goal. #residentialschoolsinlonavala On the other hand, RIS scored two goals. During the break, the players were motivated and entered the field with double the energy and spirit. In the second half Rudra Mehta managed to score a goal, but unfortunately, CVSL lost. All the other matches were played in a similar way with the same passion and enthusiasm. The four teams which played the finals were Oberoi International School, Cathedral and John Connon, Bk Birla and Riverdale International School. #bestboardingschoolinMaharashtra
